Welcome to Altarnun

Your Beat Manager

Micky Lawson - 5931

WPC Nicky Lawson

I have been a Police Officer for sixteen years. For the first ten years I was an Officer in the Metropolitan Police, and a Neighbourhood Beat Manager during my time there.

I then transferred to the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, where I have spent my last six years. I became a Neighbourhood Beat Manager in Tavistock for my first posting for approximately two years, I then spent time as a Domestic Violence Officer for North Cornwall for the next two and a half years.

I took my current role up approximately one year ago.

Its great to be a Neighbourhood Beat Manager again as it is a role I thoroughly enjoy and am totally committed to especially as I live in a rural area. I take an active part in the community not only in a professional capacity but also in a personal capacity.

I make a conscious effort to engage with the youth which makes me more approachable. I am currently helping to get a new youth project off the ground assisting with fundraising and support.

You will often see me outside any one of our Parish schools at key times, this is especially useful to some as a traffic calming measure. This is addition to the many School Speedwatches which we run. I also have a number of surgeries running in some of the rural parishes, making us more accessible to members of the community who would not normally have an opportunity to speak to me.

Your PCSO

Clare Danson

I have worked for Devon and Cornwall Police since 2004 and have had a variety of roles.  I am looking forward to taking up the role for Altarnun, otherwise known as Launceston Rural.  My first few weeks will be spent with PCSO Laura SMITH who will share her wealth of experience with me. No doubt PCSO Lol HAMBROOK will also be sharing his knowledge with me.

I have lived in Launceston since 2000 and have become a familiar face at the rugby club - usually in a fetching orange jacket!

I look forward to meeting you all in my new role.

    About Your Neighbourhood

The rural areas of Launceston have been brought together under the name of Altarnun. It incorporates the villages of Altarnun, St Clether, North Hill, Werrington, Trewen, Lewannick, South Petherwin, Lawhitton, Egloskerry, Laneast, Tresmeer and Warbstow. The total population for these areas is about 9000. There are large expanses of farmland and moorland interspersed with beautiful picturesque villages. Community spirit within these villages is important and as such many have an excellent relationship not only with their own residents but also local Neighbourhood Policing Team. It is our aim to foster these relationships and build on them to enable the rural communities to take responsibility for their own villages and have a real say in what goes on. As a whole crime is relatively low in these areas. This is disproportionate to the fear of crime. The Neighbourhood team is addressing this by visiting as many community meetings as possible to get to know local people. This will give them an opportunity to air any concerns and also give them a confidence to contact their local officer. Officers within the Neighbourhood team are impressed with the commitment of residents to their villages, which indicates a real pride in where they live.
