Welcome to Altarnun

Your Beat Manager

PC 5931 Nicky Lawson

I have been a Police Officer for sixteen years. For the first ten years I was an Officer in the Metropolitan Police, and a Neighbourhood Beat Manager during my time there.

I then transferred to the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, where I have spent my last six years. I became a Neighbourhood Beat Manager in Tavistock for my first posting for approximately two years, I then spent time as a Domestic Violence Officer for North Cornwall for the next two and a half years.

I took my current role up approximately one year ago.

Its great to be a Neighbourhood Beat Manager again as it is a role I thoroughly enjoy and am totally committed to especially as I live in a rural area. I take an active part in the community not only in a professional capacity but also in a personal capacity.

I make a concious effort to engage with the youth which, makes me more approachable. I am currently helping to get a new youth project off the ground assisting with fundraising and support.

You will often see me outside any one of our Parish schools at key times, this is especially useful to some as a traffic calming measure. This is addition to the many School Speedwatches which we run. I also have a number of surgeries running in some of the rural parishes, making us more accessible to members of the community who would not normally have an opportunity to speak to me.

My husband is also a Police Officer who transferred from the Metropolitan Police, we have two children of school age. We are a very keen equestrian family and live on a small holding with our three horses. I actively compete on my horse and represent the local riding club. My two children are very active members of the local Pony Club which they regulary represent.

 Your PCSO

Sharon Chinn

My name is Sharon Chinn and I am a PCSO based at Launceston Police Station. I am part of the Neighbourhood Policing Team and I am responsible for the Rural areas around Launceston. This consists of 15 Parishes and 9 Primary schools. I was previously a Traffic warden for the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, first stationed at Camborne and more recently Launceston until January 2007 when I took up post as a PCSO. I have a keen interest in cycling and have qualified as a CYCLEWISE instructor. I use this skill to help the children at the schools become safe and confident about using their own bicycles.

I hold many surgeries in the Parishes so please come along for a chat, I look forward to meeting you.

    About Your Neighbourhood

The rural areas of Launceston have been brought together under the name of Altarnun. It incorporates the villages of Altarnun, St Clether, North Hill, Werrington, Trewen, Lewannick, South Petherwin, Lawhitton, Egloskerry, Laneast, Tresmeer and Warbstow. The total population for these areas is about 9000. There are large expanses of farmland and moorland interspersed with beautiful picturesque villages. Community spirit within these villages is important and as such many have an excellent relationship not only with their own residents but also local Neighbourhood Policing Team. It is our aim to foster these relationships and build on them to enable the rural communities to take responsibility for their own villages and have a real say in what goes on. As a whole crime is relatively low in these areas. This is disproportionate to the fear of crime. The Neighbourhood team is addressing this by visiting as many community meetings as possible to get to know local people. This will give them an opportunity to air any concerns and also give them a confidence to contact their local officer. Officers within the Neighbourhood team are impressed with the commitment of residents to their villages, which indicates a real pride in where they live.
