Egloskerry Bus Shelter project

Police and Parish Councils pair up again to brighten up more Rural Bus Shelters (WPC Nicky Lawson) I approached Egloskerry, Tresmeer and St Stephens Parish Council’s to do the Bus Shelter initiative in their areas. ( You may remember I did this initiative sometime ago in Altarnun and it was my intention to roll it out across all my villages.)
The initiative involved inviting the children of Egloskerry Primary School to create a design on an A4 piece of paper of their ideas for the bus shelter.
I received 38 pictures all of which were very imaginative and of outstanding quality. I then met with all three Parish Councils and asked all the councils to vote on their favourite designs. Three winning designs were selected, the winners were Isobel Carter (aged 7), Josie Ridgman (aged 9), Joshua Carter (aged 8).
Once again Argos have been very supportive and donated three prizes for the winners.
All children that took part were presented with a Certificate and Devon & Cornwall Constabulary Pencils and Balloons.
The painting of the murals for the bus shelters will be done by the children of Egloskerry School and will commence on Friday 27th March. The funding for the initiative has been obtained jointly by the Parish Council’s involved and Devon & Cornwall Constabulary.
All of the equipment has been obtained from two local companies who have been extremely supportive and I would like to say thank you to both Tavistock Sawmill and Focus.
This initiative will give local children ownership of the bus shelters and will hopefully prevent any damage of the shelters. It will also brighten up the shelters and gives us a great opportunity to engage with local youths promoting respect and responsibility within their communities.

The winning designs were picked, materials were purchased and we were ready to go with the next stage of the Bus Shelter initiative!
Myself and PCSO Sharon Chinn spent a couple of days working with Egloskerry school children to place the three winning designs onto the boards ready to go into the bus shelters in Egloskerry, Tresmeer and Langore.
This involved all the children having a go at painting the white primeron, followed by the older children and winning artists tracing the projected images onto the boards. Then there was a lot of fun to be had by painting the designs on the boards.
All the relevant parish councils then worked very hard to prepare the shelters ready for the winning designs to be placed in them.
The designs are now in situ and have really brightened up the shelters.
Working with the children was brilliant and has really worked on building realtionships between children and the police.
The project has also given the children a sense of pride in the villages as well as respect and responsibility for the environment around them.
