Tregadillett Bus Shelter Project  - 10/12/2009

By: WPC Nicky Lawson

I have set up a Bus Shelter initiative, which involves working in partnership with the primary schools and the parish councils.

It became apparent to me that the Bus Shelter’s in the villages were dull and dismal, I had an idea of working with the children in the local primary school in the villages to produce designs to brighten up these shelters. These designs were then judged by the local Parish Council, winners were selected. Prizes for the winners were donated by Argos, and all children received a certificate and small prizes from ourselves.

The initiative is jointly funded by the Parish Councils and ourselves, strongly supported by Focus in Launceston.

We work with the children in the schools to reproduce the designs on an 8 x 4ft board which is then placed in the Bus Shelters. The project gives children ownership of the bus shelters and will hopefully prevent any damage of the shelters, at the same time brightening them up.

You may have seen some of the designs in place already in the following villages: Altarnun, Five Lanes, Egloskerry, Tresmeer, Langore, and South Petherwin.

More recently we have done 2 at Tregadillet and this is shown in the photographs below.
