Marine Crime

Over the past 8 months, we have forged great links with the sailing community across the waters of Falmouth. Through working closely with all the sailing clubs & associations and local businesses we created a community Boat Watch. We have seen a dramatic decrease in marine related thefts in the areas we Police.

This decrease was a total reduction in marine crime of nearly 40% and this was achieved within the first year.

We continue to work to maintain low marine crime levels. Through partnership work, including the above organisations and Neighbourhood Watch.

Preventing Marine Crime

We can offer advice on how to keep Marine Crime at bay. Below are some useful tips and documents detailing various marine crime prevention measures.

Engine Covers & Marine Marking Kits

Police boat covers are now available for the general public following their successful trial. They are a visiable deterrant to any would be thief.

Not only do these covers deter theft, but they also provide potential lines of enquiry should the engine be stolen. If an engine is stolen without the original cover, the thief will need to obtain an appropriate cover for that engine. Police can check with engine dealers to ascertain if a corresponding cover has been obtained. This could then lead to identification of an individual.

It is interesting to note that the cost of replacing an outboard engine cover is extremely high. This therefore makes your engine less appealing to a would be thief.

The boats covers should be used with the SelectaDot property marking system. Boat covers are available with Marine SelectaDot marking kits.

Details of suppliers are available from the Boat Watch link in the right collum.
