Active Priorities

Our top priorities for your neighbourhood are as follows:

Safety of pedestrians St.Eval

You Said: 12 Jan 2012

Complaints have been received concerning the safety of pedestrians in the St.Eval area now the new club has opened. In addition there seems to be little street lighting in this area, causing greater concern to locals.

So far we have:

I have made conatct with the local Councillor Mr Jeremy Rowe, who has already made contact with Cornwall Highways to discuss this matter. A visit to the area is planned with a view to traffic calming measures. A pedestrian crossing was suggested however this an unlikely solution to this matter. This will be an on going priority.

Anti Social Behaviour Padstow

You Said: 8 Jan 2012

Complaints have been made about youths running in and out of gardens on estates in Padstow and also about these youths smoking drugs in the subway in Padstow.

So far we have:

This was raised as a priority and we increased patrols in the area to combat this problem which was a very big concern for residents in this area. PC Spires and PCSO Smith altered their shifts to work more evenings and deal with youths they encountered. A number of youths have been spoken to and dealt with by these officers, and this will be an on going priority for local officers to help restore a quality of "peace" to residents and other concerned persons.

    About Your Neighbourhood

Padstow and the outlying villages make up one third of the policing area of Wadebridge covered by the Wadebridge Neighbourhood Team. The Padstow Neighbourhood officers include PC Andy Spires and PCSO's Clive Wherry and Alan Smith. PCSO Wherry has responsibility for the villages outside of the Padstow area.

In 2001 the population of Padstow was given as just over 3,000 however this figure has increased over the last 10 years.

Padstow has one primary school in the area, however within the Neighbourhood policing area there are further primary schools at St.Merryn,St.Issey, and St.Eval.

Padstow and the areas around continue to grow mainly with the growth of residential properties.

Tourism is the main source of income for these areas with a large number of caravan and campsites. Steins remains one of the "high" profile employer's with a number of business's in the Padstow area.

The area, like Wadebridge, continues to be one of the safest places in Cornwall to live and work.Incidents of recorded crime continue to fall and there are few incidents of anti-social behaviour. However the perception and fear of crime remains unusually high.

Like Wadebridge, the Neighbourhood officers work closely with partners and partner agents and have an excellant working relationship with them especially Padstow Town Council.

The neighbourhood officers continue to engage with the public on community issues by way of the PACT process and together with partners ensure these areas continue to be as safe as they possibly can be.

Padstow Neighbourhood Officers working with the community  and Town Council to erect a community notice board on the Town Council offices in Padstow.
