Welcome to Liskeard Rural

Your Beat Manager

PC Garth Hatt

PC Garth Hatt

I have been a Police Officer for 17 years starting my career in 1994 in the busy town of Torquay as a Response Officer. In 1996 I moved to the Liskeard area to police where I remained for two years before moving to Looe. During this time I worked as an investigator on the District Interview Team before becoming a Neighbourhood Officer. I was in post as the Town Officer for Looe until April 2007 when I moved back to Liskeard to begin my current role as the Neighbourhood Beat Manager for the rural area. Having had time to settle in to the area I am very aware of the rural issues affecting my community and what really matters to you. I look forward to meeting and working with as many of you as I can.

PCSO Bob Anslow

PCSO Anslow I have been a Police Community Support Officer for seven years working in the Looe and Liskeard areas. I have a long history participating in youth work as a civilian instructor with the Air Cadets and later as a Warrant Officer. I now run the Liskeard Police Cadets which has been a huge success with 13-17yr olds. I continue to enjoy working with young people both in and outside the force but balance this with other activities I enjoy with my family. I have been working hard with the communities I serve to identify and solve any problems within these neighbourhoods and welcome talking with local residents about any issues they feel is of concern. I hope you will take the time to contact me to make sure we are working for you.

      About Your Neighbourhood

The Liskeard Rural policing area is made up of ten parishes around the busy market town of Liskeard.

Starting from the west and working clockwise around the town we have Warleggan, St Neot, St Cleer, Linkinhorne, St Ive, Menheniot, Dobwalls & Trewidland, St Keyne, St Pinnock and Broadoak.

The Rural area covers just over 25,000 h/a of land with the population standing at just under 13,000 people (per 2001 survey). Each individual parish has it’s own challenges and for this purpose there are two officers dedicated in the neighbourhood team at Liskeard to cover them.

PC Garth Hatt, PCSO Bob Anslow and PCSO Becky Steed are not only working towards making the parishes safer, but are also engaging with each community to strengthen links with the police. The rural parishes are alike in being predominantly residential, but each village differs in the type of community member living there.

Dobwalls, St.Ive and Menheniot primarily consist of working families whereas St Neot is mainly a retirement haven, so the way we tackle issues and problem solve in these areas will be different.

As the parishes of St.Cleer and Linkinhorne are mainly surrounded by open moorland, the issues raised there to police are different from the other areas, as offences under the Wildlife Countryside Act are more prevalent.

Overall though, the Liskeard Rural area is a beautiful and safe place to live.
