Welcome to Grampound & Mevagissey

Your Beat Manager

I am PC 5503 Jay Dorman.  I have previously worked in Truro and St Austell East  before taking on my new role as the neighbourhood beat manager for Mevagissey/Grampound.  I currently police ten villages in total, they are Gorran, Gorran Haven, Mevagissey, Polgooth, Sticker, St.Ewe, Porthpean, Pentewan, Portholland East and Grampound/Creed.  I have been in this role since the summer 2008 and have enjoyed getting to know the diverse communities within.  In this time both PCSO Hemming and I have been tackling crime and anti-social behaviour to improve the quality of life for those who live and work within the beat.

PCSO 30297 Tony Hemming

Hello all, my name is Tony Hemming and I am the Police Community Support Officer for the Mevagissey area.  Prior to working the 'Meva' beat, I was the PCSO for Penwithick, Stenalees and Treverbyn.  As well as Mevagissey, my patch also includes Gorran Haven, Polgooth, Sticker, Grampound, Pentewan and London Apprentice.  I am also lucky enough to patrol Caerhays, Portmellon, Porthpean and East Portholland.  Before joining the Police Force I worked at Restormel Borough Council and Ocean Housing.

Active Priorities

Our top priorities for your neighbourhood are as follows:

PARKING ISSUES

You Said: 13 Jul 2010

With the holiday season upon us car parking will again become an issue for those living and working across the area. This is as always more of a problem in the villages popular with holiday makers - Mevagissey Gorran Haven Pentewan and Porthpean.

Please remember that Cornwall Council has responsibility for addressing problems with cars parked on double yellow lines.

If a vehicle is parked and causing an obstruction for other vehicles and pedestrians the keeper of the vehicle will have a fixed penalty notice issued by the Police and possibly towed away.

So far we have:

Continuing foot and vehicle patrols in all 11 villages within the beat area.

Continuing liaison with the Council's Civil Enforcement Officers.

SPEEDING

You Said: 13 Jul 2010

Members of the public and regular road users have highlighted the following areas where motorists regularly exceed the speed limits;- Pentewan Road, Valley Road and Higher Well Park and School Hill Mevagissey, London Apprentice and Grampound

So far we have:

We continue to carry out speed enforcement exercises across the beat area.

The Police will therfore, be undertaking full speed enforcement exercises in these areas at various times of day.

We are pleased to announce that residents of Grampound have organised themselves into a Community Speed Watch Scheme having undergone training in road and personal safety and the correct use of the speed monitoring equipment.

DOG FOULING

You Said: 13 Jul 2010

Dog fouling in the streets and footpaths and on the beaches has been highlighted as a priority to be tackled.

So far we have:

As a result of a number of early morning and evening foot and cycle patrols across the beat being carried out, there has been a distinct decline in the amount of mess in the area and as a result of this we will consider this priority to have been satisfied and it will be taken off the list in the near future.

    About Your Neighbourhood

Mevagissey (Cornish: 'Lannvorek') is a village and fishing port situated 6 miles from the main town of St Austell.  The village is in a small valley near the centre of east-facing Mevagissey Bay.  The inner and outer harbours are busy with a mixture of pleasure vessels and fishing boats, and there are currently 63 registered fishing boats worked by 69 fishermen.

The village consists of very narrow, picturesque streets with a wide choice of places to dine and relax, as well as local produce shops and shops aimed at the tourist trade.
