Sector Inspector Stuart Gibbons
My name is Stuart Gibbons and I have been responsible for managing the St.Austell sector since August 2007. I grew up in Lostwithiel, attended Fowey School and still live locally with my wife and children. I have 18 years policing experience, all as an operational officer either on 24/7 response or within neighbourhood policing. I am proud and privileged to be able to deliver local policing in an area which I have always considered my home.
Geographically the St Austell sector covers the principal town of St Austell plus the smaller residential areas of Fowey, Lostwithiel and St Blazey in addition to many rural villages communities. The whole sector has an approximate population of 75000. St Austell is the largest town population wise in Cornwall.
Such a large and diverse area provides a great variety of challenges to the local police. St Austell itself has a town centre currently being regenerated. At present it has limited shopping facilities, one nightclub and a number of town centre licensed premises. These late night establishments unfortunately do attract and contribute towards a degree of drink related anti social behaviour. Two busy 'A' roads also run through the sector, these occasionally produce traffic problems for the local police to deal with. The area boasts some popular coastal venues with beautiful beaches as well as the internationally recognised Eden Project. These attract large numbers of visitors, and with them come further policing issues from dealing with the increased numbers and levels of traffic.
Despite these factors the area has seen falling levels of crime year on year for over 5 years now. St Austell and its local communities are amongst the safest communities in one of the safest counties in the country.
