Welcome to St Columb Major

Your Beat Manager

I am PC 4785 Alan Lenton. I have been a Police officer for 11 years working in St Austell, Truro and now St Columb Major. I have spent the last 4 years working with a plain - clothes unit, prior to that my time at St Austell was in uniform on patrol, and as a beat officer.
I enjoy all sports and played local football. I spend most of my off duty time watching my sons play football and family time with my daughter and wife. In my quiet moments I enjoy DIY at home.
I have been in post at St Columb Major for approximately 18 months and still enjoy the challenges this proud, rural Cornish community has to offer.

    About Your Neighbourhood

St Columb Major Police Station beat cosists of the Town Centre, Fraddon, Summercourt, Higher Enoder, St Wenn and St Mawgan.

Situated just east of Newquay and to the South West of Wadebridge the area has excellent transportation links via the A30 to anywhere in the county. Newquay Cornwall airport is also located here with regular national and international flights.

The area has a diverse population with a wide variety of age groups representative. The area has a strong local tradition and a family feel where members of the community can wander down the streets and bump into people they know.

The area has a rich history and many ancient monuments including Castle an Dinas, an Iron Age Hilfort, The Nine Maidens Stone Row, the largest of standing stones in Cornwall, and St Columba's Holy Well found in the nearby hamlet of Ruthvoes.

Twice a year the town plays host to "Hurling", a medieval game once common throughout Cornwall. The game involves two teams, the "Townsmen" and the "Countrymen", who endeavour to carry a silver ball made of apple wood to goals set two miles apart, making the parish the largest pitch for a ball game anywhere in the world.

The town has a team of 1 Sergeant, 4 Police Constable's and 2 Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's) working in the area.

One interesting fact about the area is that in 1992 Australian stuntman Matt Coulter aka The Kangaroo Kid set the record for the longest jump on a quad bike at the towns Retallack Adventure Park which is still used for racing today.
