Welcome to the Plymouth Police Home page. Here you will find details of our approach to neighbourhood policing including the names of the staff serving your area and the agreed priorities under the Partners and Communities Together (PACT) scheme that they are working on for you. We welcome your interaction with us via this internet link. We are committed to working for and protecting our communities and this is best achieved through effective partnership with the widest range of people in our neighbourhoods. Neighbourhood policing is the product of a real change of thinking in police work.
In 2009/2010 a priority for all police staff will be to increase the confidence the community has that the Police and Local Authority are dealing with the issues that matter to them. To this end we promise to deliver the 'policing pledge' (please click to view a copy of the pledge). The pledge is a commitment that sets out minimum standards in ten areas of policing. We want to do our best but if we fail to meet our pledge we will always explain why it has not been possible on that occasion to deliver the high standards to which we aspire and our communities deserve.
The key is that if issues are important to you, then they are important to us. We will always have a focus on crimes such as burglary, thefts from cars and violence, but these are not always the issues that affect most peoples quality of life, so we will work with you to identify your policing priorities in your area. Keeping communities safe is a far bigger task than just policing and we are very pleased to work in partnership with a huge range of people through our Local Strategic Partnership and other informal networks. Our key partners include Plymouth City Council and its many departments, the Fire Service, the Probation Service, the Chamber of Commerce, National Health Service and many many others.
We are all working to the agreed strategy to make Plymouth one of Europe’s leading waterfront cities. While this is our top level strategy, neighbourhood policing is our means of building up plans and strategies that serve the local needs of our communities. Please do make contact with your neighbourhood policing teams, they will welcome being in touch with you. The extent to which we are having effective two way communication with you is an indicator of the effectiveness of our approach to neighbourhood policing. We are committed to building safer communities together and in so doing bringing down crime and the fear of crime in the city of Plymouth. We look forward to doing this with you.
