South Hams West

Inspector Andy Tomlinson
South Hams West incorporates the larger settlements of Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Brixton, Yealmton and Modbury. The sector boundary also embraces a variety of villages from The boundary with Plymouth the southern fringes of the moor and the coast.
There are very low levels of crime. Compared to national figures The South Hams is one of the safest places in the country to live and work. It is important to keep a balanced view of crime, being aware of it and the things we can all do to keep it low, whilst not allowing an unnecessary fear of it having a disproportionate effect on our lives.
Whilst in many cases the police deal directly with individual crimes and patterns of crime we also work closely with the local councils, other agencies and community groups to address longer term problems and provide services relevant to the local community.
Each of the neighbourhoods identified on the right side of this page have a dedicated team working in that area. We have identified local policing priorities and these are detailed on the neighbourhood pages along with what we and our partners are doing to deal with them.
A lot of policing activity is based on crime information held by the police and our professional judgement. However it is also important that we provide a service that deals with the priorities and concerns of the local community. I would therefore urge you to get involved by contacting your neighbourhood beat manager via the links on the right-hand side of your neighbourhood page or by attending one of the local meetings.
We will continue to work with you and your community to maintain the low crime safe environment we currently have and ensure communities are free to enjoy the benifits of living in a wonderful part of the country
