Teignmouth & Dawlish
I am Inspector Chris Shaw. I have been a police officer for 20 years and have worked in Exeter, Sidmouth, Honiton and Exmouth prior to moving to Teignmouth.
As a police constable I worked mostly as a uniformed response officer. On promotion to Sergeant I worked in training before moving to Exmouth to manage the neighbourhood team.
For policing purposes the Teignmouth & Dawlish sector is divided into four neighbourhoods: Teignmouth; Teignmouth Rural; Dawlish and Dawlish Rural.
Each neighbourhood has a dedicated neighbourhood policing team consisting of a Sergeant, Constable and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) who focus on the policing issues important to residents and businesses in their community.
The sector varies greatly from the coast to the inland areas. The coastal towns of Dawlish, Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth are quieter during the winter but experience a huge surge in population during the summer months.
Inland there are many small villages separated by large areas of countryside. From a police officer’s perspective, addressing the needs of the varied communities is challenging, interesting and fulfilling.
Ours is a safe place to live with decreasing levels of crime. The likelihood of becoming a victim of crime is low.
We continue to address problems that matter to local people such as antisocial behaviour and speeding traffic. We also aim to be visible in the community to provide the reassurance that is valued by so many.
