Sector Inspector Justin Wyles
I am Justin Wyles and I currently have the privilege to be the sector Inspector for Newton Abbot. I joined the police service in Leicestershire in 1996 where I served until transferring to Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in 2003. I have previously been stationed at Torquay and Paignton, arriving at Newton Abbot in 2007.
Newton Abbot Sector consists of four distinct neighbourhoods, Town, Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot East [Buckland, Milber and Decoy] plus Rural [Kingskerswell, Ippelpen and Denbury].
Each neighbourhood has a dedicated team, which includes a nbm, 2 or 3 PCSOs plus Special Constables. A Team Leader supervises the officers. The neighbourhoods have been aligned to coincide with local Town and Parish Council boundaries to develop partnership working. To provide support to the neighbourhood teams, and police a resident population of about 55 000 people there are five dedicated response teams working every day 24/7. Each response section is managed by a Sgt. and contains 5 constables. Also working from Newton Abbot Station are the Road Policing and Dogs Units.
Newton Abbot Police Station is open 6 days a week (Mon - Sat) between the hours of 9am to 7pm [closed for lunch daily 2-3pm]. Between March 2007 and April 2008 Newton Abbot was one of the best performing Sectors across the Force as evidenced by the 12% reduction in total reported crime and the detection of 33% of all offences. In addition Violent Crime, Vehicle Crime and Burglary showed considerable reductions against the previous year. I am committed to continue this success ensuring that public confidence and satisfaction remains my priority throughout.
