Welcome to Axminster Town

Your Beat Manager

Darren Herridge

PC 6496 Herridge

My name is PC Darren Herridge, and I am the Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Axminster Town.   I joined the Metropolitan Police in 1989 and served in West London until 2004, when I transferred to Devon & Cornwall Constabulary.

I have been the Axminster Town NBM since August 2006 and have successfully established strong bonds with the local community and the Town Council. This has been further enhanced by the arrival of our PCSO's Andy Trott and Amanda Jones. Our main objective is to continue to build on these relationships, which will enable us all to keep Axminster a pleasant and safe place in which to live and work.

Other Team Memebers

PCSO 30192 Andy Trott

My name is Andy Trott and I have been a PCSO in Axminster Town since October 2006. Before becoming a PCSO I was a Special Constable for 12 years based at Seaton. I find people in Axminster very friendly and it is a very pleasant place to work.

PS 5413 Peter Trudgeon

My name is Peter Trudgeon and I am the Neighbourhood Team Leader (NTL) for Axminster. I have been in post since the 5th of January 2009. I joined Devon and Cornwall Police in June 2000 and since joining I have worked on reponse and in CID. This is a completely new position for me and I am enjoying the new challange.

My objective is to ensure that my team continues to build on already excellent relationships with the community and make Axminster one of the safest places to live and work.

Anne Marie Collins

My name is Anne Marie. I started working for Devon and Cornwall police in 1997 as a Caseworker in Exeter preparing files for court. After about three years I changed my role to a Station Enquiry Officer (SEO) and have worked at Honiton, Seaton and now Axminster. This is a role I really enjoy.

Active Priorities

Our top priorities for your neighbourhood are as follows:

Road Maintenance

You Said: 1 Jan 2010

As a result of a public meeting at the end of January 2010 and further consultation via PACT cards and face to face interaction, it was established that the roads in Axminster were in urgent need of repair in places.   Other Highways maintenance issues were also raised.

So far we have:

A representative from Devon County Highways Dept was present at the public meeting and all of the issues were passed to him for resolution in due course.

Update 11th August.

Highways Dept have worked hard through the spring and summer to address the vast majority of the issues raised at the meeting.  Although the work is continuous it appears that most if not all of the pothole problems in the area have now been rectified.

Dog Fouling

You Said: 1 Jan 2010

As a result of a public meeting at the end of January 2010 and further consultation via PACT cards and face to face interaction, it has identified that dog fouling is a high priority issue for the residents of Axminster.

So far we have:

The dog warden from East Devon District Council Environmental Health Dept was present at the public meeting and the matter has been passed to them.  Local police officers have patrolled the areas identified as particularly bad, including Willhay Lane, both in uniform and plain clothes in order to monitor the problem and identify offenders.

Update 11th August

There has been a significant reduction in the number of reported incidents of dog fouling in the area.   Officers have noticed an improvement in Willhay Lane and the town itself.   This will continue to be monitiored and any offenders identified will be dealt with robustly.

Parking Issues

You Said: 1 Jan 2010

As a result of a public meeting at the end of January 2010 and further consultation via PACT cards and face to face interaction, it was found that parking still features high on the agenda for residents of Axminster.

So far we have:

East Devon District Council Parking Enforcement Officers work closely with the local police to combat any problems as they arise.  Alexandra Road, Widepost Lane and Willhayes Park have been flagged up as particularly bad, and have been patrolled with action being taken where necessary.  A letter drop has been carried out on all vehicles parked in Alexandra Road in an effort to encourage motorists to park more considerately.   Vehicles will be removed at considerable expense to the owners if the carriageway or pavements are obstructed.

Update 11th August

There has been a significant reduction in reported incidents of inconsiderate parking in the problem areas identified.   The issue will continue to be monitored closely with foot and vehicle patrols in these streets.

Speeding

You Said: 1 Jan 2010

As a result of a public meeting at the end of January 2010 and further consultation via PACT cards and face to face interaction, speeding was mentioned by a number of people.   Although it did not feature highly, it is considered by the local police to be a persistent problem in certain areas which requires attention.

So far we have:

Update 11th August

Local officers have continued to use the large speed indicator equipment as well as the handheld speed detection device to enforce and educate in the problem areas.

This has been bolstered by the Roads Policing Unit who have combined education with enforcement.

On the morning of 5th August a total of 5 endorsable tickets were issued, 2 non endorsable tickets and 23 verbal warnings mainly for speeding in Crewkerne Road.   On the same day 4 endorsable tickets, 1 non endorsable and 18 verbal warnings were issued in Chard Road.

On 6th August & endorsable tickets and 37 verbal warnings were given for excess speed, again in Crewkerne Road.

These methods will continue for the forseable future as there is still obviously an issue with speed at these locations.
