    About Your Neighbourhood

    Hele and Pendennis

The Hele & Pendennis beat area is within the Tormohun ward and is located in a central area of Torquay. The beat is predominantly made up of residential areas, with a mixture of both social/rented and privately owned housing. There are additionally a number of B&Bs situated along Newton Road which cater for visitors to the area. As well as large outlets situated at Bridge Retail Park, there are also a handful of smaller convenience stores scattered around. There is a fairly large industrial estate (Woodland Business Park) where a number of companies are based. We also have a number of businesses situated along Lymington Road. Within the beat area there is one secondary school (Torquay Community College) and two primary schools (Torre and Upton St James) where most of the local young people are pupils. Other features of the beat area are Torquay Bus & Coach Station, parts of Torquay Cemetery, Barton Cricket & Social Club and Chapel Woods.

    Torre

The ward is at the heart of a vibrant community in Torquay. It encompasses a large tourist accommodation industry, which results in a large influx of visitors to the area during the summer months. Areas such as Brunswick Square, Lucius Street and Castle Circus provide some of the commercial areas in the ward . The area of Torre Abbey offers a range of facilities, including the seafront promenade and the historic Torre Abbey Barn. The area is home to a variety of different groups of people. A large percentage of the population is made up of young adults, and people who living in multi-occupancy accommodation or flats. There are also significant populations of families with at least one child, young couples and people living in recently built housing.

    Town Centre

This area covers the mainly retail area that runs the length of the main shopping routes in Torquay, from The Strand on the sea front up through Fleet Walk and Union Street to Castle Circus. It therefore has a lot of influence with the towns day and night time economies. There are also significant numbers of people living in flats and small dwellings in and around the shops, pubs and clubs.
