Aaron Piper Diversity Manager

I am the police Diversity Manager covering Cornwall & Isles of Scilly. I have been a Police Officer with Devon & Cornwall Constabulary for a number of years and have covered a wide variety of roles during my career in the Police Service.

I have the lead role in regards to all Diversity issues involving the Police in the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Basic Command unit (BCU) and I have been in this current post as Diversity Manager for approximately 4 1/2 years.

My team and I have the following fields of responsibility.

 To build trust & confidence.

Support the investigation of Hate crimes & Incidents.

Develop and improve relationships with all the communities we serve.

To maintain and develop an anti-discriminatory; human rights led policing culture, which recognises, respects and values diversity.

My Diversity Officers develop and maintain regular contact with minority and hard to reach individuals / groups, providing reassurance to these communities. They also give guidance and support where necessary to your local police officers when they are engaging with the many diverse communities / individuals who both reside and visit our county.

Your Diversity Officers interact with many partner organisations both in the voluntary and statutory sectors discussing policing issues, victim support and also helping to develop initiatives to raise awareness and reduce hate crimes.

In summary the Diverse Communities Team (DCT) do not perform the actual investigation of hate crimes as that will be for the local relevant Neighbourhood Policing Team or CID Officers. The function the (DCT) Team performs is to monitor and review hate related incidents giving Advice and Guidance on Diversity & Equality issues.
