Welcome to the Devon Diverse Communities Team! You will see from the links at the side of the page that you will be able to contact your local Diversity Officer or find out what they have been up to in your local policing area in which you currently reside.
Our aim is to build trust and confidence with all communities within Devon (not including Plymouth - they have their own page). The Diverse Communities Team have a wealth of experience and knowledge and I would encourage you to contact them. The team will listen to your concerns, in confidence, give you advice and guidance and where necessary introduce you to a person or other organisation that can help resolve the issue. This level of engagement will vary with individuals.
One of our objectives is to increase the reporting of Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents.
A Hate Crime is ' A crime which is committed against a person because of who that person is or the background that they come from.'
A Hate Incident is ' An incident that can be committed on the same grounds as a Hate Crime (race, sexual orientation, disability, transgender, religion/belief, age) but the act by the perpetrator does not amount to a criminal act.' It is important to note here that if an individual perceives that the incident is hate motivated then it is.
We appreciate that for some of you to contact us is a big step in terms of trust and confidence but this team is good at what they do and are there to help and guide you through the process.
