Welcome to the Plymouth Diverse Communities web-site.
At the moment we are a team of four.  The team consists of a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Jaysan Charles, Constables Keith Donohue and Graeme Kirkup and Sergeant Brian Green.  We are based at Charles Cross Police station in the City Centre.
The purpose of our team is to identify and reach out to communities who do not, for various reasons talk with us.  There are other communities who have specific needs but feel that they can not report crime and we endeavour to work with them to enable them to be more confident to trust us to care for them.
As our knowledge is fairly specific we also work within the Police to help them, as a whole, to understand the Diverse Communities so that we, as a service, can give the best possible response.
We are in the process of recruiting two PCSOs who will be used to enhance the work within the 6 strands of Diversity (Race, Religion/faith, Sexual orientation, Gender, Disability and Age).  We have secured funding to get an additional Constable to work on our team to engage with the eastern European Communities living within Plymouth.  This post is to educate this community about the differences between their home country and life in Plymouth.  It is also intended to assist in their integration into the community life of Plymouth.
When using this web-site please understand that as the geographical area we cover is fairly small a lot of the activity takes place in the city centre area, but which is intended to include people from across the whole city.  As a result we will publish our events in the main Plymouth folder rather than in the smaller Local Policing Area (LPA) sites.
As a team we work closely with statutory bodies, such and Plymouth City Council Social Inclusion Unit as well as the third sector such as the Racial Equality Council.
